actually vinny, the difference in ammount of players in GW to WoW isnt as large a difference as youd think. yes WoW has more users. but its not like they have a mountain of them and GW only has an ant hill.the reason GW can afford not to be P2P is because of the expansions. think about it. you can download wow and set up an account for an initial fee of 0$. to start paying guild wars you have to either buy the game at a retail store or download it form the site and buy a cd key. either option will cost you 50 upfront. now you get all the users to do this and you have more than 4 months subscripition fess from wow instantly, even if they dont continue to play the game for more than a month. then the new expansion comes out a year later, still selling copies of the original game might i add, and guess what 50 more upfront from all of your users. 6 months later, another one. and they add their online store. you can buy merch, more character slots, pvp skill sets, and much more. which many dedicated players buy.
all that on top of a better, more well designed codebase, allowing for less servers because each individual player server is run off their own pc, you get an equal, if not higher income by Anet over Blizzard. have fun.
Did i say this to you. Because i explained this to some noob like three days ago.
no you didnt. this is just a matter of looking at the facts, and putting them together logically. and ok vinny. its an upfront fee of 20 bucks. i was wrong. but they would make just as much money selling it for fifty and having a few expansion packs (guild wars will have the original game plus 3 expansions before its 3rd birthday) which are stand alone games in themselves all retail for 50 bucks, and 40 after over 2 years (the original GW still sells for 40 in most stores). so stop preaching. GW is better. play it more. then you'll realize what youve been missing all this time playing WoW.
